Tai Chi is called an “internal martial art” practiced for its self-defense and health benefits. Tai Chi includes designated forms that are hundreds of years old for internal (health) and external (fitness, self-defense) benefits along with “push-hands” (like very slow, controlled sparring) for self-defense. Training the form will help with your balance, coordination, and circulation. It’s known as moving meditation because you must focus on what you are doing and give your mind a break from daily troubles.
Qi Gong is a holistic system of coordinated body posture and movement, breathing, and meditation used for health and martial arts training. There’s a saying, “if you have trouble with meditation you have trouble with being with yourself.” There are many, even scientifically-proven, health benefits to Qi Gong and meditation. Make the time to make the changes you are looking for; you deserve it.
If you want to learn self-defense and get in shape, but are concerned with injuries or sore joints, this is a perfect route for you. Any body type can do Tai Chi or Qi Gong. You will feel strong, relaxed, and competent.
